Composition is essential to photography, but it’s not about “rules” and “thirds” and the like. Rules are tools for better composition. Every photograph has a composition, regardless of what you do, but some compositions are way more effective in expressing how do you feel about the world around us.
Effective and engaging compositions are so important to Rob Sheppard that he collaborated with Art Wolfe on the popular book, The Art of the Photograph, all about making your compositions better. Composition is not a technology class, but a class that will challenge you to think differently and see the world in imaginative ways.
It will include such things as (and much more!): communicating with composition, engaging viewers with more effective compositions, using depth of field and light for impactful compositions, using color to change composition, working edges and angles for more impact, and how changing focal length and distance to the subject can create fresh and totally different compositions. Each class session will have exercises to stretch your creativity and we’ll discuss your work each session.
