Whether they are using words on a page, brush strokes on canvas, musical notes or photographic images, successful artists rely on composition to effectively communicate with their audience. Intermediate Composition will teach you how to identify the key elements of photographic composition, how to use these elements to enhance a subject and tell a story, and how to begin using composition to create your unique artistic signature.
Specifically, session 1 will be a review of basic compositional theory and practice followed by a discussion of the foundational elements of effective composition. Session 2 is an examination of the ways that other compositional elements might support (or detract) from the subject and thus impact the visual story you are trying to tell. Session 3 will be a discussion of perspective. What it is, and how can it be used to improve the impact of your images. Finally, session 4 will review practical ways to develop compositional competence with the intention of creating images that are an accurate manifestation of your personal vision.
The class will be taught over 4 sessions. Each session will last 2 to 2.5 hours..
