Learn how to capture frame worthy photos of outdoor sports like soccer, baseball, football and surfing. This class is guided towards beginning and intermediate photographers, but we will also have tips for the experienced sports photographer.

Exposure triangle – How and why the exposure triangle is relevant to sports photography
Camera modes – A review of aperture priority, shutter priority and manual mode.
Full frame vs. crop. Resolution and cropping. JPEG vs Raw
FOCUS MODES & POINTS
Pre-capture? Focus modes? Single point, zone focus? Focus cases?
SPORTS LENSES
Which focal lengths and apertures do you need for a given sport? Multiple lenses?
FIELD LIGHTING
Lighting – Shooting mid-day vs. night. Changing conditions. Filters? Shutter speed changes?

Why monopods, high speed cards and extra batteries are important
STORY TELLING
Drama in sports – Capturing the highs and lows, individual efforts, team celebrations.
Thrill of the crowd – Be sure to capture the spectators – wide angle lens?
GAME PREPARTATION
Scout the game ahead of time, tell the story, why is THIS game important?
Scout the players, who are the key players in the match up? Are you ready for them?
Scout the field – very important – what is in your field of view? (trash cans, porta potties?)
Arrive early for a good position.
Warm ups-test your set up, field position and shutter speed, what needs changing?
Move around if you can. Don’t shoot whole game from one position.
